Portraits from photographer Troy Stains feature peculiar fancy dress

Date

One of the most difficult tasks for a photographer in portraiture is to capture the subject in a way that isn’t overly ostentatious. Troy Stains, a photographer from Atlanta, has hit the nail on the head. Relying mostly on natural light, the banality of Troy’s portraits are surberb, yet strange at the same time.

His portfolio is a mixture of the hilarious –gotta love the lady in the yellow jumpsuit – and the downright weird. Is the guy with the mop on his head for real? His project En Temporada Baja captures “the malaise of a matador in the off-season.” Swapping a bull for a turtle table, I don’t think this guy is coping very well.
