TwoPoints creates “flexible” type-based identity for Verano Archivo

This summer saw Hamburg-based design studio TwoPoints taking on the challenge of designing the visual identity for Verano Archivo: an experimental exhibition with activities for kids and adults. Archivo is a space in Mexico City dedicated to “collecting, exhibiting and rethinking design in a broader sense in Mexico.” With a focus on highlighting the importance of the interesting discoveries and learnings that take place at the beginning of a project, the exhibition Design in Process, aims to bring the public closer to the actual experience of production. The exhibition covers a range of products from textile design to architecture and showcases the work of 36 emerging and established Mexican designers and collectives, all curated by Isauro Huizar and Mario Ballesteros.

The typeface TwoPoints designed is at the heart of the visual identity due to its flexible nature – “It allows us to combine letters to create new forms, able to adjust adequately to context and space.” The ‘V’ and ‘A’ can either be used in isolation or the entire word Verano Archivo may be set horizontally or vertically. The colour yellow, which is the common thread of the identity, connects every component of the event and creates a recognisable detail, even when the typeface or name aren’t used. On top of this, the identity actually visualises each component of the event: the exhibition, the activities for kids and the activities in the open space. Each component became a colour and were silkscreened on top of the letters, in turn creating a poster for each of the events as well as a general poster when printed altogether. Lastly, an interactive element was added in the form of a “selfie-wall”: a huge mirror placed in the exhibition space where visitors could glue the geometric forms themselves on top of the letters Verano Archivo and take a picture of themselves.
