Tyler Axtell

Axtell successfully blurs the boundaries between (what I believe) is an increasingly anachronistic and needless boundary between graphic design and fine art. How will our universities of the future reason with its students if they are forced to practice one or the other and not some logical mixture of both design and fine art? Axtell’s works are geometrical explorations in colours, tones, language, and forms. Each work gives off a sudden symbolic urgency, but the symbols and language are so subverted and re-contextualized that one is equipped only to look within oneself to distinguish their true purpose: a puzzle that is its own cipher.
