Hamburg-based Villa Studio collaborates with illustrators for exhibition identity

Villa Studio’s identity for Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) pulls together three different areas of the school for their annual exhibition. For the first time the three departments, Design, Medien and Information, showed their work together in the summer show titled Rundgang DMI

“The basic design is similar, but each department has its unique colour and type,” Villa Studio explains. The project used a different illustrator for each of the three posters with Christoph Kleinstuck creating the D, Philipp Lemm the M and Matthias Barth the I, all of whom attended the university at the time the show took place last summer. Abstract yet still playful the central illustrations reflect the eclectic nature of the work that’s created at the university with comics, photography, animation and interactive installations all being showcased. The type was designed by French type foundry Lift and is adapted across the series to both differentiate and tie them together.
