Graphic Design: Vintage books' new blog is a thing of bibliophilic beauty

Date
11 October 2013

We like books over here at It’s Nice That. We like how they feel in your hands, how they smell when they’re fresh from the printers and how they change in character as you lend and retrieve them from people. We can’t stand it when they’re not returned though; that’s NEVER acceptable. What we really love though, is when the covers are beautifully designed, offering a concise, communicative graphic snapshot into the text you’re about to digest.

Vintage have a pretty solid track record when it comes to commissioning beautiful book covers and they’ve recently set up a blog called CMYK that offers you an insight into their process, demonstrating their impressive commitment to the designed elements of the printed medium. The blog itself is pretty minimal; a selection of images and short paragraphs detailing the intricacy of commissioning from the creatives they approach to last-minute changes in artistic direction.

It’s a unique resource for anyone looking to better understand how art directors go from concept to final artwork and a lovely excuse to spend some time with some great Vintage titles.
