Weekender: It's here, it's huge and it's ready to rumble like a huge, rumble-y thing

Date
11 October 2013

Alrighty then you gorgeous lot. It’s time to unclog your peepers, show off the capitalist shackles and go bask in two blissful days of cultural, gastronomic and, sure, dancey goodness. We won’t judge you. Heck The Weekender’s your pal, lining up the shots at the bar while you get freaky on the floor. So bottoms up one and all; let’s live, love and laugh like it’s our last weekend on earth!

Stungt of the week, maybe the year. Pray silence for the Telekinetic Coffee Shop trick…

Brilliant Barcelona-based studio Hey smash an artist’s new identity out the proverbial park.

2. Nothing oozes class like Union Jack shorts

Charlie Clift introduces us to some British expats with his excellent portraits.

This weeks Things is a NYC special!

Our directors Will Hudson and Alex Bec returned fresh-faced and wide-eyed from New York on Monday (only joking they were actually super jet-lagged and a bit scruffy) where, having decided that our neighbours across the Atlantic had been but names on emails for too long, they spent a week meeting some of the most exciting creatives we have worked with over the past couple of years. So to showcase all of the cool stuff they brought home to share with us (except the sweets; they were gone before lunchtime) this week’s Things is a New York Special! Wooooooo!

Described by Will as a “very nice man,” Timothy was kind enough to let Alex and Will take home of this lovely piece of work. Created by Build to showcase Timothy his stills photography in a neat and stylish way, the booklet presents his brilliant work in poster format on the finest 48gsm paper. A cooler portfolio I never did see.

We’re been ogling all the cool knick-knacks that Experimental Jetset designed for the Whitney’s rebrand since we wrote about it in May so we were chuffed to have Al and Will bring us home some goodies. Actually quite a lot of goodies; some cool badges, a bunch of fridge magnets, a notepad, all of which go to show just how malleable Experimental’s fantastic new identity is.

The lovely guys at Pau Wau handed the guys a stack of fantastic zines, but this one won us over easily because YOU HAVE TO WEAR 3D GLASSES TO READ IT. Don’t be fooled by the fun-factor of obligatory accessories, though; this zine depicts both drought and disaster in 3D, and the joyful images are interspersed with shocking scenes of desolate landscapes, which causes something of a reflection on our desire to be entertained.

Pau Wau also gave the lads a copy of this beautiful book of photography by Lasse Dearman. Usually photographing fashion editorials, band portraits and documentary photography, these images are more a visual collage of Lasse’s days. His images are arresting, vibrant and rich, and shown off to their very best advantage in this beautiful printed book. (Check out that paper stock! Corrrr.)

Saturdays Magazine: Issue #2

This weighty tome came direct from Saturdays NYC, a fashion label and store complete with barista and surfboards and other cool stuff. We were taken in by the beautiful typography and the great use of images contained in this beauty; also, it’s yellow. Really yellow. Who doesn’t love yellow?

What a week! And what better way to round it off than with some slamming tunes. This week we’ve got an absolutely banging playlist with such hits as Pulp’s Sorted For E’s and Whizz, followed by some trippy Donovan track where he witters on about how much he loves his shirt. We end with an absolute banger from a 1990s girl band that isn’t The Spice Girls. Can you guess what it is yet? Don’t pretend you don’t know the whole intro off by heart. All together now!

Tweet of the week

Irresponsible technological breakthrough of the week

Oh yeah, ok Boston Dynamics. You just create a robot THAT CAN RUN ON ANY TERRAIN AND DON"T WORRY ABOUT THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY. Sheesh.

Celebrity interview of the week

There’s many things we love about Adam Baidawi’s account of his 15 second interview slot with David Beckham. Note to PR people; you may have jumped the shark.

Weirdly addictive game of the week

Think you know your IKEA furniture from your death metal bands. Well put your money where your mouth is then with this new game…

Parody of the week

Remember Dumb Ways To Die the Australian safety video which went super viral and scooped basically every award going? Remember when you really wished that someone would spoof it using Grand Theft Auto? This is going to be like Christmas for you.
