What's On: Baudouin Mouanda

The esteemed members of SAPE (Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes/Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People) steal the show with La Sapologie, which takes up a large part of the quite brilliant body of work now on show at Gasworks Gallery. The Congolese photographer responsible is Baudouin Mouanda and, as the rest of the images portray, he has a sharp-witted eye for his subjects “manners of self-expression and the ways in which they negotiate the day-to-day problems they encounter.” Along side the Sapeurs, are social commentators-cum-hip hop stars and students, figures of the region’s future.
