Fun, sporting graphic design in the Zürich London Poster Exhibition

Date
23 July 2012

Going on the basis that you may struggle to trust a roast dinner festival in Japan (fun as it sounds) you can be safe in the knowledge that a poster exhibition from design-infused Switzerland is really going to cater for all of your graphic design needs. The Museum of Zurich is currently displaying twelve impeccably designed, Olympic-themed (naturally) posters, designed by 12 leading designers and studios: half British, half Swiss, at the House of Switzerland in London.

The tantalising efforts displayed on the press release are a perfect example of Olympic-inspired design that doesn’t seem slightly forced or a teeny bit competitive. In fact, almost all of the posters released in advance show imagery of smiley faces, fruit and animals – a welcome break from angry-looking sportsmen and inspirational phrases. In fact, the designers and studios asked to participate were only given one, very short brief – to follow the friendly, energetic slogan of the House of Switzerland “We paint the town red!” – which they all seem to have risen to with gusto.

The Zurich London Poster Exhibition runs until August 12.
