Ben Terrett
Guest Posting 6 April – 9 April 2010
Ben Terrett is a designer. But within that definition there are many different aspects to what he does. He’s a partner in RIG, a design studio who works for Apple, BBC and Penguin. He’s a Director of newspaperclub.co.uk a web service that helps people make their own newspapers, who The Design Museum recently awarded the Design Of The Year Award for Graphics. He’s also the Creative Director on w+k’s Guardian account and the creative Director on a secret Nike project with w+k and AKQA.
What have you got planned this week?
The week starts with a Bank Holiday and then goes rapidly downhill past meetings, editing a film, more meetings, a launch event, more meetings, plotting Newspaper Club’s expansion and finishing with Friday afternoon in the pub with some nice clients.
What do your parents think you do?
They’ve actually got a pretty good idea. They’ve always been interested in my work from Art lessons at school onwards. When I’m working I often wonder what they would think of a particular idea, that’s a good way of stopping you going to far up your arse. My Dad comments a lot on Flickr.
Who do you look like?
Face wise – my Dad and my brother and my sons. Fashion wise – a really shit Doctor Who.
What’s your favourite sense?
Sight. Definitely.
Tell us something people don’t know about you…
I’ve been to the top floor of Canary Wharf.
Did your education count?
I guess. I always had art teachers who believed in idea rather than style. Foundation was the best year of my education life.
What word can’t you spell?
Err, don’t know.
Tell us a good fact
On an average day they get 70 coaches at Stonehenge.
What’s Next?
D&AD judging. I love D&AD judging.
What’’s your ‘Plan B’?
Pay someone else to do it.
