Grant Parker
Guest Posting 9 August – 13 August 2010
Zimbabwean born Grant Parker trained as an Art Director at Hunt Lascaris TBWA in Cape Town, before moving to London in 1998. He started at BMP DDB 11 years ago. He has worked with Patrick McClelland, and then Joanna Wenley on campaigns for Nikon, Heals, Harvey Nichols, the Guardian, Volkswagen, Marmite, Philips. And a less successful campaign for a foreign Tourist Board. He has been the Head of Art at DDB London since September 2006.
What have you got planned this week?
My wife and I are being treated to The Rake’s Progress at Glyndebourne as a wedding present. Apparently the hero leaves the simple country life in the “vain pursuit of big-city bonuses and increasingly exotic pleasures (climaxing in a loveless marriage to the bearded lady from a local fair) and ends up bankrupt and insane in Bedlam”. They don’t write them like they used to…
What do your parents think you do?
I think they really do understand what I do. My Dad often tries to write ads for me.
Who do you look like?
Levon Helm from The Band (on the cover of their 1969 album, The Band – there I am second from the left). My mom, but with a beard (there seems to be a theme developing).
What’s your favourite sense?
Taste. Confirmed just the other day by my first ever packet of Skips!
Tell us something people don’t know about you…
As hard as I try, I simply can’t catch.
Did your education count?
Yes. Miss Fourie was a true inspiration.
What word can’t you spell?
There are so many… Glinebourne for starters.
Tell us a good fact
Apparently there are more people alive today, than have ever died.
What’s Next?
Learning to catch.
What’s your ‘Plan B’?
Landscape gardening.
