Justin Waldron

Guest Posting 6 September – 10 September 2010

Guest posts this week come from the Japan/New York-based photographer Justin Waldron. Justin studied film making at the New York Film Academy before working as a cinematographer on several motion picture projects. In 2006, he relocated to Tokyo, Japan where he began his central focus on still photography.

What have you got planned this week?

Preparing a large shipment of my wife’s works to be sent to Tokyo for an exhibition next month. Wrapping up an editorial commission & flying to New York (from Japan).

What do your parents think you do?

We keep in contact, so they have an idea of what my week may consist of.

Who do you look like?

A slight abstraction of my inner-self…

What’s your favourite sense?

Sight for certain…

Tell us something people don’t know about you…

I skateboarded for 15 years!

Did your education count?

Certainly – but not significantly in comparison to experience.

What word can’t you spell?

There are a few which I sometimes stumble with… but none of which are coming to mind.

Tell us a good fact

There are no supposed tos

What’s next?

Stateside in September..
Tokyo in October…
China in November…
India in December…

What’s your ‘Plan B’?

Following feelings, which does not consist of any particular plans; nor does it differ from ‘Plan A’.

  2. Zak Mering

    Guest posted by Justin Waldron,

New York-based lo-fi music artist Zak Mering is a living legend. Known for projects such as: Raw Thrills; Silent Talk; Greatest Hits; The Sweethearts… He has been making music almost everyday for the past 8-9 years. Originally from Los Angeles, Zak comes from a family of musicians, which only begins to explain why it all seems so natural.

  3. Post Poetics

    Guest posted by Justin Waldron,

Post Poetics is an independent distributor and bookstore. Located in the Hannam-dong area of Seoul, Post Poetics utilizes the 2/3 floors (& nice rooftop space) of a centrally located, lo-rise building with it’s lovely bookshop and office/library space. Many may be distracted by the beautiful bookshop itself, and somehow neglect to mention the extremely well managed distribution sector of Post Poetics. Truly a unique distributor! Here is perhaps my favorite bookshop!

  4. Misaki Kawai

    Guest posted by Justin Waldron,

An everyday inspiration with her playful power-packed punches, Misaki Kawai is one of the most prolific artists I know. She has an upcoming solo exhibition at Tokyo Opera City in October; and at both Take Ninagawa (Tokyo) & Gallery Loyal (Malmö) in early 2011. Also, soon will be released a 500 page drawing book from the lovely Japanese publisher Schtucco. You can check Misaki’s online shop for the very few copies of past pubications which are still available!

  5. Keiichi Sugimoto

    Guest posted by Justin Waldron,

Keiichi Sugimoto is a sound artist based in Tokyo. He is known for projects such as: Filfla; Four Color; Minamo; and Fonica. We met three years ago at a show in Koenji (Tokyo), where his wonderful & talented collaborator, Sanae Yamasaki (Moskitoo) was performing. Since discovering Keiichi’s projects, I have had a consistently growing affection for his works, which range from Four Color‘s beautifully composed sound arrangements to Filfla’s dynamic sets.
