Disposable Diaries
Call it nepotism, whatever, don’t care. Disposable diaries is a project from Gordon. It is what it is, and makes for entertaining viewing. A bit of voyeuristic escapism to launch into the weekend.
Conceived by Gordon Armstrong and Rob Peart, who met while studying graphic design at university, Zineswap is both a swap-shop-like resource and a vast contemporary archive of self-published print. Initially run from a bedroom in Hackney, Zineswap now has its own second-hand filing cabinet, a couple of desks and an intern, and entails screen-printing nights, pop-up swap-shops and installations.
In September last year, they held their first event at Tate Britain. Last week they ran a workshop at Peckham Space, and they’re also currently half-way through a residency at the Orange Dot Gallery.
Rob: Wow this week is a busy one. We got to sort out our next workshop at TATE, a workshop for the London Architecture festival, our pop-up-swaps… the list goes ON!
Gordon: Oh and try and shift some of the tote bags we have for sale on our site.
Rob: My mum gave us a hand with the launch, so she’s got a good idea of what zineswap is about. Not sure she like the zines with nudity in though. My dad on the other hand…
Gordon: My mum loves it! She even made a zine at one of our workshops…..it was……well……..SHIT.
Rob: Gordon looks like Jarvis Cocker with a smaller head.
Gordon: I disagree with the above statement, its much more like Where’s Wally crossed with a sex offender rocking a Fisher Price ‘My First Moustache’ but Rob on the other hand most certainly bares a resemblence to Mr Bean.
Rob: I’m not sure. Tough question. My least favourite is smell…
Gordon: Sixth
Rob: Bastard sword
Gordon: Circumcision
Rob: Of course. We met at uni. Anyway, aside from this I don’t really get this question. Of course it counted. Everything counts.
Gordon: Second that notion.
Rob: Zinesawp
Gordon: Zinezwap
Rob: 2 million emails are sent every second
Gordon: 100% of infant circumcisions are done without the consent of the individual concerned
Rob: We just got an intern. So we have to keep her busy. Aside from that, just making sure everything outlined in question 1 goes without a hitch…
Gordon: Yep
Rob: Haha! Zineswap IS plan B! We both have full-time day jobs as well as this. Actually, I just handed my notice in so plan B is becoming a very real option.
Gordon: Keep on doodling.

A lifestyle/streetwear brand that’s on the rise, spawning from the minds of two London based lads and taking its inspiration from tattoos, music and skateboarding. With a hint of Mike Giant and his Rebel 8 empire thrown into the mix, these two will no doubt be hot on his tail in no time at all. Head over to their site which has a fun blog to boot.
This flickr site is a huge archive of various zine covers gathered by Pere Saguer, a contributer to Zineswap based in Spain. There is an amazing variety of stuff that must have taken a lifetime to collect.
Forget soaking up the sun in a field with the likes of Rolf Harris playing in the background, its all about 4.5 days, 1 cinema, 25 blood soaked films and a heck of a lot of popcorn. Thats right, I’m talking about my favourite event of the year… FRIGHT FEST, a film festival for the horror fan in all of us, taking place in the heart of London over the August bank holiday weekend.
Rob met Owen when he came to look at the spare room in Rob’s house. Turns out Gordon already knew him from various punk shows. Small world. He takes great photos of said shows, and a lot more besides. Take a peek at his Salutations zine for super-shots.
