Adidas has unveiled its first pair of trainers inspired by one of Wes Anderson’s most iconic films.

Released at the We Love Green festival in Paris with a limited edition of 100 pairs, the launch was twinned with a performance from Brazilian musician Seu Jorge, the artist most prominently featured in The Life Aquatic’s highly successful soundtrack.

As an exact replica of the trainers worn by protagonist Steve Zissou (played by Bill Murray), the design of the shoe is an iteration of the character’s now-iconic nautical and minimalist style. Featuring sea-blue stripes and submarine-yellow laces, the retro Adidas Rom model now boasts a series of aquatic updates including gold “Zissou” text embroidery.

The Adidas Rom model was first released in 1959 to celebrate the 1960 Rome Olympics – an edition now near impossible to source. With the shoe’s impressive popularity in the 80s twinned with The Life Aquatic’s cult fan base, this latest version is set to excite sneaker heads the world over.
