Street photographer Charlie Kwai captures the action on Bafta’s red carpet

Date
15 February 2016

Street photographer Charlie Kwai has captured the red carpet at last night’s Bafta awards in London adopting his brash, signature style. From the stars to the fans and everyone in between, Charlie’s vibrant shots capture an alternative perspective of the awards, contrasting puffa jackets with glamorous gowns.

Picked as one of our Ones to Watch 2016, originally the London-based photographer was there to shoot for clothing brand Hackett. But he used the opportunity to his advantage and “captured the red carpet atmosphere in between responsibilities,” he says. “Aside from the fan portraits, I was stuck in one spot all night, so while it might seem like I had freedom, I didn’t – I’m hoping they give me a free roam pass next time though, because this [series] could be so much better,” Charlie adds.

While he’s got no plans for the series yet, a selection of images can be seen on the photographer’s Instagram.
