Christoph Niemann: Maammo Christmas cards

Maammo toy store in Copenhagen has released a set of Christmas cards by illustrator Christoph Niemann.

The four designs exemplify Christoph’s knack for simple, witty imagery that subtly satires Christmas icons and offers an alternative to the swathe of seasonal twee. One image shows Santa at a lectern, with a slide presentation showing a pie chart with one tree-shaped slice removed. In another, the big guy is having a rest on his giant sack of presents.

This is the store’s first designer collaboration, as part of its mission to “engage the best creatives of today,” says co-founder Daniel Flösser, “to work on projects that spark creativity”. Inspired by Fredun Shapur’s work with Creative Playthings and Ken Garland’s work with Galt Toys in the 1960s, the shop is dedicated to beautifully designed products for children and families, offering items such as a sail boat designed by Big Game and Bauhaus toys.
