A virtual reality recording of David Bowie’s musical Lazarus will be shown at the V&A for its fourth annual Performance Festival later this month. For the event, the museum will show a preview of the full film, made exclusively for the V&A, capturing the musical written by Bowie and Enda Walsh. The musical had its final London performance on 22 January 2017.

The festival celebrates “live performance in all its forms”, also screening a premiere of upcoming film Lady Macbeth followed by a Q&A with the film’s director William Oldroyd, actress Florence Pugh and costume designer Holly Waddington, which will be broadcast live to cinemas across the UK.

Also on the programme is a conference day exploring “what’s next for the theatre and performance industry post-Brexit”.

Events marking the 25th anniversary of the V&A’s National Video Archive of Performance will include panel discussions with filmmakers from the RSC, on the art of capturing theatre on film.

The Performance Festival 2017 runs from 21-30 April 2017 at the V&A in London.
