As the city gears up for the launch of Photo London later this week, Magnum, Plinth and Thames & Hudson open the doors on pop-up space The Magnum Home.

Located in a Georgian townhouse opposite the British Museum, The Magnum Home houses an exhibition from Magnum’s hallowed photographic archives on the anniversary of the photography collective’s 70th year, curated by Ghanaian-British writer, journalist, broadcaster – and former artistic director of the ICA – Ekow Eshun with radical interior design transforming the house and its courtyard gallery courtesy of artist Yinka Ilori.

The exhibition, curated by Ekow, titled Just Kids: Magnum Photographers on Youth Culture will explore how Magnum’s blockbuster roster of photographers has documented youth culture during the last 50 years, turning an eye to gender, race and social status all the way from the West Midlands to central America. Yinka Ilori, who recently redesigned London’s Africa Centre, will use the space to respond to ideas of the home in relation to youth. Just Kids will act as a segue between the artist’s highly-recognisable colourful interventions and Eshun’s curatorial practise.

The house will play host to a series of talks and events. On Thursday 18 May, Where’s it at? will bring Hunger magazine’s Lily Silverton together with nominee Magnum member Matt Stuart and political writer Sam Kriss to discuss youth culture in London with editor Craig McLean; Re-visions of London on 20 May will invite visitors to re-imagine iconic images from Magnum’s archive in the city; and on 21 May, Yinka Ilori will be running a tile decorating workshop.
