Alex Trochut
Guest Posting 8 - 12 June 2009
Alex Trochut was born in 1981 in Barcelona and studied Graphic design before working as freelance designer and illustrator in 2007.
Alex Trochut’s illustrations, designs and typography challenge the very notion of minimalism with a work philosophy of “More is more”. It’s rich with elegant, brilliantly detailed executions that convey indulgence and a lightness of touch, as well as restrained control. Trochut says he is “driven by a desire to constantly evolve”, which is evident in his eclectic body of work.
Renowned for his technically exquisite type creations and designs, Trochut attributes his special connection with typography to his grandfather Joan Trochut – a typographer and the creator of a modular typographic and ornament system built in the 40s. He is based in Barcelona and on the very top rung of the illustration ladder.
What have you got planned this week?
Hopefully finally finding the right appartment to move to.
What do your parents think you do?
I think they know quite well, we talk a lot. When I was 17 they had a different opinion of what I do now though, but I’m really lucky that they always supported me.
Who do you look like?
I little bit like Aladdin and Mr.Spock.
What’s your favourite sense?
Sight
Tell us something people don’t know about you…
I still don’t have the driving license… but I’m working on it.
Did your education count?
I think so, but the more the time goes by, the more I feel I’m forgetting everything I learn. I feel my brain is like a spoon with holes sometimes…
What word can’t you spell?
Reykjavik
Tell us a good fact
“The real issue is not talent as an independent element, but talent
in relationship to will, desire, and persistence. Talent without these
things vanishes and even modest talent with those characteristics
grows.”
— Milton Glaser
What’s Next?
What was previous?
What’’s your ‘Plan B’?
Take a year off! But let’s face it that’s not going to happen…
