Guest Posting 13 - 17 April 2009

Bravo Charlie Mike Hotel is a London-based graphic design and branding consultancy. With a nod to traditional design principles and methodology we employ logic and intuition in equal measures whilst embracing current, craft and future technologies to realise challenging work in appropriate mediums.

What have you got planned this week?

Leftover Easter eggs

What do your parents think you do?

Mark’s mum knows what we do, Ben’s dad just thought he made thousands and thousands and thousands of pounds.

Who do you look like?

Mark: Tim Roth (more Reservoir Dogs than Planet of the Apes)
Ben: A cross between Peter Petrelli (from Heroes) and Louis Theroux

What’s your favourite sense?

Mark: Sight
Ben: Hearing

Tell us something people don’t know about you…

Mark can tie a reef knot with his feet, Ben’s got Grade 7 music theory and musicianship on the cello.

Did your education count?

Yep. Absolutely.

What word can’t you spell?

Exhibtion (sic).

Tell us a good fact

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural cause. A bit sad (sorry) but a good one.

What’s Next?

All day lunch.

What’s your ‘Plan B’?

There is no Plan B. Hopefully Plan A just gets modified and upgraded as becomes necessary.

Neil Bridge is a photographer (and ex-graphic designer) based in London. He shoots ‘the other side’ of art, automotive design and creativity, all over Europe. Discovery and a fascination with found detail characterise his work. We’ve been working with Neil ever since our paths accidentally crossed in Marrakech a few years ago and highly recommend you check out his site.

London-based record label that’s a personal favourite. PK is one of very few labels that its records sound and look incredible everytime. Having put out records by Greg Cash, Niney the Observer and Tom & Jerry the label owners, including the insanely talented Will Bankhead, have chosen to hand stamp or screenprint or letterpress the limited releases. PK is also responsible for one of my favourite records and record sleeves of all time called Darker than Blue.

Raven Row is a contemporary art foundation that opened recently in Spitalfields. Designed by 6a Architects it’s embedded in two 18th century silk mercers’ houses and a 1972 office building. 6a’s beautiful design manages effortlessly to make the different periods of the building talk to each other. We’re particularly fond of their raw sand-cast bronze door knobs which are indented with a thumb print. And the art’s great too. The inaugural exhibition is of work by Ray Johnson (1927-95). Must see.

Tim Krabbé’s autobiographical fiction tries to convey his passion for the amateur bike racing. The novella, which has no chapters, is a pacey account of his participation in the Tour de Mont Aigoual race, from just before it begins to its bitter end, detailing his physical and mental journey. Described as an existentialist piece in the grand European tradition of Camus and Beckett it’s well worth trying to get hold of a copy.

    Flag Signaling Systems

There are various flag signaling systems including flag semaphore, wig-wag signalling and the international maritime signal flag system whereby each flag spells out an alphabetic message. NATO uses the same flags, alone or in short sets, to communicate various unclassified messages. Stop carrying out your intentions and watch for my signals!
