Pietari Posti
Guest Posting 21 - 25 September 2009
Finnish illustrator Pietari Posti was born and grew in Helsinki. After graduating from Lahti Polytechnic with a BA in graphic design Pietari worked for few months as a graphic designer before moving to Barcelona in late 2005 where he started pursuing his illustration career. Now three years in, his work has been featured in numerous publications around the world including The New York Times, The Guardian, Wired Magazine and in his own words, “many other magazines no one has ever heard of.”
What have you got planned this week?
Work, celebrate la Merce here in Barcelona and run a 10km race.
What do your parents think you do?
They are really supportive, and happy for me.
Who do you look like?
Anything but a typical Finnish person, someone said once I look like Gael Garcia Bernard and someone Fernando Alonso, I prefer the Gael Garcia…
What’s your favourite sense?
Sight is the artistic answer, sense of touch would be the romantic answer.
Tell us something people don’t know about you…
I’ve got orange belt in Judo (almost green).
Did your education count?
Studying graphic design got me where I am now, and I’m happy to be here, so yes.
What word can’t you spell?
Massachusetts, and many more in Spanish and English.
Tell us a good fact
Salvador Dali designed the Chupa Chups logo… I just learned this last week.
What’s Next?
TV.
What’’s your ‘Plan B’?
Do nothing for as long as possible.

A troubled relationship between a Cat and Mouse set in the distant Future. Winner of the Golden Bear for best short film at the 2009 Berlinale. Amazing, emotional, different, crazy cool animation from David OReilly. If you are not familiar with this young designer check the second link for more amazing work.

Beautiful, sexy and haunting illustrations by Kazuki Takamatsu. I would love to see these illustrations as man size sculptures.

Tomokazu Matsuyama is a new acquaintance to me, but I fell in love instantly in the way he plays with color and forms, and draws shapes with abstract objects. Would love to see his paintings live someday. He is part of a group show in Boston, called Sacred Monsters. Everyday Animism in Contemporary Japanese Art and Anime.

Take away concerts a la BlogoTheque. Inprovised concerts in the streets, elevator, bars, boats, everywhere! The stories behind the concerts are worth of reading too. My favorites are Bloc Party, Arcade Fire and Sigur Ros.
