Bethnal Green Road/ Shoreditch High Street Junction Bridge

They put this up over night – they constructed it on the site where the train station will be built, on one side of the street, then lifted it up and slotted it into place. At first it seemed like a bit of an intrusion – a new bridge, going across a busy East London street, breaking up the sight-line, obscuring the view towards Liverpool Street and the Gherkin building. Then it occurred to me that in reality, it’s not an intrusion at all, nor is it just a structural part of a rail link joining one side of London to another. It’s also a beautiful blank canvas, waiting to be embraced as part of the urban art drenched landscape. I wonder if the likes of Banksy, Dave The Chimp or Solo One, et al have clocked it yet…
