Bureau Mirko Borsche creates series of posters for the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra

Bureau Mirko Borsche has worked with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra on a series of posters that advertise the institution’s next season of concerts. The Munich-based studio has collaborated with the orchestra in the past, having created posters for it since its 2010/2011 season. Each year, the studio uses its custom typeface developed specifically for the client. “We developed a unique typeface because they are mostly programme posters using the names and titles of the concerts, so we have to be able to generate personality through type,” explains Gian Gisiger, who was just one of the designers on the project.

The face is called Andri 3000 and appears as a collection of letterforms and numbers neatly arranged, stacked and merged together in the posters. The studio has created 30 posters for the collection, within the series there is a set of six which use only the letter K and a series of digits. “The numbers represent the amount of chamber concerts each year, which is six," says Gian. "These are called ‘Kammerkonzerte’ in German, so each year we play with the ‘K’ and the numbers.”

The wholly typographic approach is strengthened by the monochrome palette, which has been used for past poster collections. The absence of colour is striking and makes the reader focus more on the smooth shapes and blockiness, which still manages to appear elegant and refined suiting the orchestra and its sophisticated programme of events.
