At the moment, television is all about naming and shaming hoarders who can’t even sleep in their bed because of all their crap. But James Hyman is a new realm of hoarder, his things are not rubbish but an immense collection of over 50,000 magazines and over 2,000 different publications. The invaluable archive took over nine months of sorting, with help from art curator Tory Turk.

As a scriptwriter for MTV Europe in the 1980s and 1990s, James was at forefront of popular culture, and his collection has everything from NMEs going back to the 1940s and Playboys since the 1950s. The ability to cross-section any trend, music act or brand allows us to fully understand how a cultural entity has evolved over the last few decades. James and Tory, we salute you.
