Artful fashion reportage from New York photographer Landon Nordeman

Date
13 October 2015

Landon Nordeman’s unusually well-shot fashion reportage may have you thinking he’s been documenting the chaos and anticipation backstage at New York and Paris Fashion Weeks for years, but surprisingly, the past two seasons have been his first. Rather than working in the dizzying frenzy of the fashion industry, the New York photographer has been shooting things like the Westminster Dog Show for several years now, and 2012 saw him travel to Romania for the 2012 Euro Dog Show, which he documented on The New Yorker’s Instagram.

As is often the way, this slightly outsider perspective on fashion is what makes his photographs such a refreshing departure from the from the endless run-of-the-mill shots of the catwalk, front row peacocking and models posing backstage. Instead Landon turns his attention to colours, patterns and textures, gestures and details, and unexpected angles which see heads cut off or shots of people’s well-dressed backs, all of which are mysterious and revealing in their own ways.
