Laurent’s sculptures find a happy medium in wood, they are strange and familiar and beautifully carved. Like Matelas, a number of mattress forms that look like island-ish topography on a sea-like lawn, or Cacahuète, an oaken peanut. There are also some excellent interpretations of menhirs and totems that remind us of the historical cultural significance of such forms, but the smaller votive forms are just as important and lovingly hewn.
