Tickets are now available for August's Nicer Tuesdays!

Date
6 August 2019

Whether you’re a budding documentary photographer, an outspoken activist or handy with a paintbrush, August’s Nicer Tuesdays will have something for you. Falling this month on the 27 August, once again we’ll be gathering in Oval Space for an evening of inspiration (as well as a few drinks). Already billed for August is photographer Max Miechowski, design duo and “climate club” Adapt, artist Melissa Kitty Jarram and Kellenberger-White.

Grab yourself a ticket, then pop back to find out more about our speakers below.

Based in London is Melissa Kitty Jarram, an artist utilising paint to create surreal and dreamy scenes, often with a central female figure. It’s a style which, despite sitting in the fine art realm, has attracted the attention of clients such as WePresent and Nike. Most recently, the artist worked on a breathtaking animation titled Ugly in collaboration with another It’s Nice That favourite Anna Ginsburg, who reached out to Melissa to work on the film. At Nicer Tuesdays, Melissa will be chatting to us about her work which updates Greek mythology for the modern-day.

Adapt AKA Josie Tucker and Richard Ashton are a design duo who formed a “climate club” with one goal: make design-focused work about environmental issues, using humour and contemporary culture to demystify climate change and provide simple and accessible solutions for action. Having recently hosted a climate change speed dating event at the Tate Modern as well as an exhibition in Peckham, the duo will be showcasing their work thus far and weighing in on a belief that design can bring about change.

Max Miechowski is a London-based photographer whose photographs explore notions of community, intimacy and honesty. Originally from Lincoln, he moved to London in 2017 where he discovered Burgess Park, a setting in which he produced a significant body of work. Here, he met the locals, getting to know them as he captured their portraits, in turn, building up a series which portrays the strength of diverse communities. At Nicer Tuesdays, Max will be talking through this method of working which sees him responding to the people he meets in an instinctual and collaborative way, working with sitters to create authentic work.

Kellenberger-White AKA Eva Kellenberger and Sebastian White will be taking to the stage at this month’s event on 27 August. The studio, which has made a name for itself producing slick, well-researched identities, print design and typefaces, will be joining Melissa Kitty Jarram, Adapt and Max Miechowski. Forming the basis of Eva and Sebastian’s talk will be their work for the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA).
