Fashion: Phillip Koll makes fashion photographs reminiscent of vibrant collage

Date
16 January 2014

Young Berlin-based photographer Phillip Koll’s ability to blend fashion photography with sporadic blocks of vibrant colour has a distinctly collage-like effect, which makes his work seem almost multi-media. It’s a clever illusion, created through inventive set design and careful composition, and one that’s very effective.

We quickly succumbed to the vivid colours of this shoot entitled Antonia. Shot through with dashes of deep claret red, bright purple and eclectic orange which are in turn juxtaposed with sharp right angles, the combination of colour and shape used weave a strong narrative throughout the photographs. So much so that you forget you’re looking at fashion photography rather than a piece of artwork, which is often when it’s at its most effective, don’t you think?
