Travis Knight: Kubo and the Two Strings

The winners of the Bafta Film Awards have been announced, with Travis Knight’s incredible stop motion animated feature Kubo and the Two Strings winning the prize for Animated Film. It beat Finding Dory, Zootropolis and Moana.

The prize for British Short Animation was awarded to A Love Story directed by Anushka Kishani Naanayakkara, co-written by Anushka and Elena Ruscombe-King and produced by Khaled Gad. The film was Anushka’s graduation project from the National Film and Television School, and you can watch a making-of film here.

Madeline Fontaine won the award for Costume Design for her work on Jackie. The Bafta for Production Design went to Stuart Craig and Anna Pinnock for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The award for Special Visual Effects was given to Robert Legato, Dan Lemmon, Andrew R. Jones and Adam Valdez for The Jungle Book.

The British Short Film award went to Home directed by Daniel Mulloy, and produced by Scott O’Donnell, Afolabi Kuti and Shpat Deda. The poignant film tells the story of a stereotypical English family going on holiday, but with a twist that shines a light on the horrors of the refugee crisis.
