2016 Bafta nominations announced

Nominations for the 2016 Baftas were announced this morning by Stephen Fry and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Todd Haynes’ Carol and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, both US productions, lead with nine nominations each. The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is nominated in eight categories. Mad Max: Fury Road has seven nominations, while Brooklyn and The Martian have been nominated six times each. The Big Short, and The Danish Girl and Ex Machina both receive five nominations. Star Wars: The Force Awakens follows with four nominations.

Carol is nominated for Best Film and has received nominations for its cinematography and costume design, as well as six other categories. Also nominated for Best Film, Bridge of Spies is up for Original Screenplay, Original Music, and Production Design among others.

The British Short Animation nominees are Edmond, Manoman and Prologue. Ex Machina and The Lobster are also nominated in the Outstanding British Film category.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Royal Opera House on 14 February.
