Instead of blessing us with new music, Frank Ocean has blessed us with a visually captivating catalogue for his new independent luxury brand Homer. The brand takes its name from the act of “carving history into stone” and refers to Homer, the ancient Greek poet. The brand’s first collection is a line of fine jewellery and printed silk scarves, designed by the Homer team in New York City and handmade in Italy.

Ocean took the photos himself, with campaign imagery by frequent collaborator Tyrone Lebon. Ocean’s not a stranger to being the mastermind behind the camera as opposed to on the mic. Who could forget his 2019 Met Gala photographic series, captured candidly on film showing familiar faces and moments of stillness. Here, the catalogue features similar still life scenes alongside amicably framed portraits aiming to capture moments of intimacy with its subjects.

At the same time, Lebon’s imagery aims to celebrate the designs of Ocean’s new brand. The bright colours of the Pokemon-esque characters paired with the shimmering details attempt to reflect the childhood obsessions which Ocean mentions inspired his line, as well as the idea of “heritage as fantasy”. Whilst plus signs and circles within the pieces aim to demonstrate elements of retro gaming consoles. London-based Lebon collaborated with Ocean previously on the video for his track, Nikes.

The Homer collection is handcrafted in 18K gold, recycled sterling silver, hand-painted enamel, and American lab-grown diamonds. It is only available to buy at the Homer store in New York.
