DJ, producer and artist Goldie will present this year’s Turner Prize awards ceremony in Hull, UK, to be broadcast live on the BBC. The presenter follows in a line of celebrity hosts including Lauren Laverne, Paul Smith, Yoko Ono, Mario Testino, Richard Attenborough and Madonna.
Goldie is best known for his music but has exhibited his own artworks internationally. On the announcement he commented: “The Turner Prize is one of most important art prizes, whether outrageous, curious or challenging, it’s always relevant, as demonstrated by these works by all the artists on the shortlist and I cannot wait to find out who the winner is. Hull is having a storming year as UK City of Culture and I’m really looking forward to getting to see more of it myself.”
This will be the first ceremony since the Turner Prize abolished the age limit of 50. The award will be given to one of the shortlisted artists, Hurvin Anderson, Andrea Büttner, Lubaina Himid or Rosalind Nashashibi, on 5 December at the ceremony at Hull Minster. An exhibition of the four artists’ work is currently on display at Ferens Art Gallery until 7 January 2018. The award carries a prize money of £25,000, while the three runners-up receive £5,000. Last year’s winner Helen Marten famously shared her winnings with the other shortlisted artists.
