Kanye West announces new architecture firm Yeezy Home

Kanye West has announced that he will be launching an architecture firm named Yeezy Home. On Sunday (6 May) the rapper tweeted: “We are starting a Yeezy architecture arm called Yeezy home. We’re looking for architects and industrial designers who want to make the world better.”

The new firm would be an expansion on his existing company Yeezy, which lends its name to Kanye’s clothing line and footwear designs made in collaboration with Adidas. In late April the controversial musician tweeted: “Yeezy is no longer a fashion company we should be referred to as apparel or clothing or simply Yeezy.” He went not to state that Yeezy is the “second fastest growing company in history” and that he has “160 positions to fill by the end of the year”.

Yeezy Home isn’t the first instance of Kanye’s interest in architecture. In 2012, Kanye announced his creative design company DONDA — named after his mum — that would specialise in “products and experiences”. In 2015 he told Dezeen: “I want to do product, I am a product person. Not just clothing but water bottle design, architecture… I make music but I shouldn’t be limited to one place of creativity.” A year later, during an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Kanye voiced a wish to collaborate with Ikea on an interior design range.

Regardless of whether Kanye’s promised architecture firm becomes a reality, it is safe to say we will probably hear a lot more from the vocal musician. The rapper recently came under fire after an interview with TMZ where he claimed that slavery was “a choice”.
