Robert Beatty, Brian Roettinger and Olivia Bee created the artwork for Kesha’s new album, Rainbow

Illustrator and artist Robert Beatty has revealed he is behind the artwork for Kesha’s upcoming album, Rainbow. He worked on the cover with art director Brian Roettinger, known for designing Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail and No Age’s Nouns, both nominated for a Best Album Packaging Grammy. Brian has also just designed the cover for Jay Z’s new album 4:44.

The artwork features photography by Olivia Bee, who was part of Forbes’ 30 under 30 in 2016 having shot for Adidas, Fiat and Hermes by the time she turned 21, and a Converse campaign when she was just 15.

The triage of creative talent has come together on the artwork for Kesha’s first album since the very public legal battles with her former producer Dr Luke. Rainbow comes out on 11 August.

Robert brings his trademark psychedelia to the imagery, picturing a nude Kesha in a pool facing a narrow corridor in space surrounded by iced-gem-like spaceships, a dripping eye, intense drop shadows and a pleasing gradient backdrop. The illustrator commented on Instagram today: “Psyched to unveil my artwork for the new Kesha album.” Robert also previously designed album covers for Flaming Lips, Tame Impala and Thee Oh Sees.
