Stunning oil-painted van Gogh film Loving Vincent unveils full theatrical trailer

Two years in the making, using the talents of 125 professional oil painters, the makers of much-anticipated film Loving Vincent have released a full theatrical trailer ahead of it’s launch in cinemas next month (September).

The film is made up of 65,000 hand painted frames and follows the life of the troubled painter, narrated by the people who knew him. The 94 minute film is the world’s first fully painted feature film and is written and directed by Dorotea Kobiela and Hugh Welchman. The artists travelled to studios in Poland and Greece to paint over a live action film frame-by-frame in oils.

“No other artist has attracted more legends than Vincent van Gogh,” say the producers. “Variously labelled a martyr, a lustful satyr, a madman, a genius and a layabout, the real Vincent is revealed in his letters, and obscured by myth and time. Vincent himself said in his last letter: ‘We cannot speak other than by our paintings’. We take him at his work and let the paintings tell the real story of Vincent van Gogh.”

Loving Vincent is released on the 22 September.
