Contemporary commission to bring performance to Tate Britain's traditional spaces
Pablo Bronstein has been announced at the artist creating the Tate Britain Commission 2016, making a new large-scale piece in response to the site’s central neo-classical Duveen Galleries.
In a similar approach to his 2011 ICA show, the Argentina-born artist will be using the space to house a series of interventions and performances that take his interests in Baroque architecture and spectacle as their reference points.
“Grand architecture is one of the things I’m most interested in, so it’s a rare opportunity to be able to create work in such a unique setting as the Duveen Galleries,” says Bronstein. “The commission also presents a perfect and challenging opportunity to work with performance on a large scale.”Bronstein’s Tate Britain Commission follows previous Tate Britain contemporary art commissions by artists including Martin Creed (2008), Patrick Keiller (2012) and Christina Mackie (2015). The work will be in place from 26 April – 9 October 2016.
