Good grief, Charlie Brown: NASA and Kim Jones to loan Peanuts-related material for new Somerset House show

There’s a theory we’ve been working on recently at It’s Nice That. The science is a little shaky, and probably wouldn’t hold up to even the most lenient of peer review procedures, but we’re going to go for it: you can’t trust anyone who doesn’t love Peanuts.

Between now and December, we’re likely to be found sitting at home in a homemade Linus costume, listening to the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s A Charlie Brown Christmas hoping that Santa pings a Snoopy of our own down the chimney.

Until that happens, we’ll make do with Somerset House’s Good Grief, Charlie Brown! a large-scale celebration of all things Schulz. Originally announced earlier this summer, the much-loved institution has today revealed that even more Peanuts related goodies will be on display between 25 October 2018 and 3 March 2019 – and even fashion supremo Kim Jones is getting involved.

The new material comes from a range of diverse, and unexpected, sources. In addition to the vintage sweaters and first editions that the Dior Men’s artistic director is loaning, there’ll be contributions from NASA (who’ve delved deep into their galactic archives to retrieve photographic prints of the time Snoopy hopped aboard the Apollo 10 on a trip to the moon), donations from various Vietnam vets, and a brand new flag that’ll fly over Somerset House, designed by artist Ryan Gander.

If that wasn’t enough, Charles M. Schulz’s widow Jean will be zipping over from California to share her personal stories of his life and art.
