Deutsche & Japaner's black and white, rough and ready album artwork with a DIY feel

Date
7 September 2015

Creative studio Deutsche & Japaner is known for its many-sided work which stretches across art direction and branding, dipping in and out of editorial, exhibition artwork and web design, as well as various other disciplines including interiors and scenography. They now add album artwork to that list with a monochrome design that carries a distinctly DIY feel for German rapper Fabian Römer’s new record Kalenderblätter.

Far more nuanced and restrained than artwork typical of rap records, Deutsche & Japaner’s design takes torn images and reworks them into abstract collages representative of every song on Fabian’s sixth album. What’s more, as testament to the studio’s holistic approach, the artwork encompasses a digipack, instrumental album cover, deluxe box, calendar and poster all photographed by Ramon Haindl.
