Stillspotting nyc

Date
30 September 2011

In collaboration with architectural firm Snøhetta, legendary composer Arvo Pärt recently curated a series of stillspots around Lower Manhattan – a small number of in- and outdoor spaces (like the one pictured) that explore the special relationship between space and sound. The project was completed as part of the Guggenheim’s Stillspotting nyc initiative, a two-year experiment that aims to locate, celebrate and emphasise – via art projects, an insightful user-generated noise map, and weirdly intriguing video data – the importance of quiet amidst one of the loudest cities in the world.
