Netflix reveals new icon

Date
29 June 2016

Netflix has revealed a new “N” icon to be rolled out across its mobile apps. The icon is a ribbon in the company’s brand red, using drop shadows on the ribbon facets to make the icon 3D. This contrasts the flat graphic of the existing Netflix logo, which replaced the original 3D version in 2015.

The “N” ribbon has rounded edges, mirroring the curvature of the existing Netflix logo, but offering a bolder and stripped back identity for its presence on mobile device screens and social media profiles. To the same end, the icon sits on a black background rather than white.

This new icon will not replace the existing logo, but used alongside it. A short statement from the TV show and film streaming service explains: "We are introducing a new element into our branding with an N icon. The current Netflix logo will still remain, and the icon will start to be incorporated into our mobile apps along with other product integrations in the near future.”
