There’s more than enough work over on the Inges Idee site to keep you busy for most of the day but a recent find through Booooooom was the work of German artist Hans Hemmert.

Work / Art Nice Threads, Mate embroiders throwaway British culture in incredible detail

Dalston-born artist Nice Threads, Mate has been a painter and decorator for 17 years, but in his spare time has taken up embroidery. An unlikely pastime, perhaps, but not completely unfounded. He studied at Chelsea and for a drawing degree at Camberwell, yet “the only thing it taught me was I didn’t want to do that,” he jokes. After that he painted film sets, which he says “sounds more creative than it is. It’s the same as painting people’s houses, but it’s just harder to get paid”.

The New York-based illustrator has a broad range of commercial clients from Fortnum & Mason, Anthropologie to Urban Outfitters and Patagonia. However, it is the work Llewellyn does for fun that intrigued us, a collection of paintings that display his artistic skill and interests in equal parts.

At this year’s Venice Biennale, British artist Stephen Chambers is showing a series of 101 portraits depicting the characters of a legendary tale based on the West Indian island of Redonda. The tiny island has always been uninhabited, yet in 1865 a merchant trader called Matthew Dowdy Shiell decided to claim it as his own and elect himself monarch.
