A bit of a fun one for friday.
A fantastic typeface from new London based studio Sherrif made me grin through it’s unashamed brutality and bluntness.

Based in Prague and currently studying at The Academy of Art, Architecture and Design (UMPRUM), Cindy has the opportunity to explore her interests in history and contemporary design through various projects including brand identities, poster design and websites.

Founded by three friends located in two cities, graphic design studio Arc was built on an authentic connection. Their ethos is simple: “We all agree on a style and way of thinking, particularly in the sense of typography, use of imagery and the things we value or not. Work / Graphic Design Pouya Ahmadi uses typography to “bridge the gap between poetry, performance and space"

In graphic design it is often considered that the simplest designs is the hardest to complete. If this statement is true, Swiss, Chicago-based graphic designer Pouya Ahmadi makes a very difficult job for himself, creating clean cut designs time after time. His most recent project, a newspaper for the Festival of Poets Theater, sees the designer reducing his process even more, using only a black and white colour palette.

Work / Graphic Design Gilles de Brock’s bold poster designs use found imagery and psychedelic hues

Art director and designer Gilles de Brock’s designs are informed by “the limitations of the medium” he uses in each project. Psychedelic in colour choice and composition, Gilles creates work for long-term clients, who give him the trust and freedom he needs to experiment. Having worked with Nike, Metahaven, and most recently Red Bull, Gilles hopes to convey his own reflections on a subject in ways that the client may not have previously considered.

Work / Graphic Design Justin Sloane applies his blunt and nuanced ethos to multidisciplinary design

Multidisciplinary designer, Justin Sloane, presents the “competition between organic and synthetic” visuals in his work. With a variety of projects under his belt, Justin prefers to demonstrate the “bluntness” and clarity that can be achieved through design. “[My style is] sort of schizophrenic depending on what I’m working on. With my own work I tend to go back to an idea of ‘nuanced utility,’ or something like that,” he tells It’s Nice That. “I love simple technologies and visual markers, things like bright yellow sidewalk paint, thermoplastic coating, anodised metal, rivets, concrete…I think the bluntness of utility is beautiful.”

Work / Graphic Design Twin brothers V/A/B on their “difficultly simple” approach to design

V/A/B is a collaboration between two 19-year old twin brothers, Victor and Arthur Brun. Specialising in an idyllic mixture of typography, design, painting and photography, the duo express their means of creativity in the most harmonious of manners. “We have always worked together; we have never wanted to separate because we’ve always made the same things, so the collaboration was logical for us,” Arthur explains. “At the moment, we do not only consider ourselves as graphic designers: we are young and we need to express ourselves through various means, in mediums such as paintings and photography. We like this relationship between these various disciplines.”
