Anna Beil defies convention with "trashy" illustrations and animations

Date
4 May 2016

Berlin-based artist and designer Anna Beil, a final year student at the FH Potsdam, works primarily in illustration and animation and avoids any traditional graphic design conventions. “I ended up doing nasty drawings, but with humour and sweet details,” she says.

Her work is peppered with dark innuendo and Anna’s crude line drawings are rationalised into animals and other characters. Her poster work is somehow unified by a random approach to layout, line weight and colour, and elsewhere type is slashed, stretched and misplaced with a bizarre accuracy. Her animations include a sideways look at how an ice cream might melt on a summer’s day and the disturbing tale of a mythical god. Anna’s website is an intriguing and squirming corner of the internet worth a visit too.
