Arcin Sagdic, the photographer inspired by "philosophical, mathematical physical scripts"

Date

Berlin and London-based photographer Arcin Sadgic defines himself through the passion which arcs through the images he creates for the likes of XimonLee, Numero Homme Berlin, Pylot and many more besides. “I take my inspiration from philosophical, mathematical physical scripts that I read,” he tells It’s Nice That. For Arcin, inspiration can be seized “in and from anything that crosses my way.”

For the self-taught photographer, the practise goes beyond more than the moment the shutter is released. “I was always interested in the image behind the image,” Arcin says. Unable to afford the cost of the expensive scanning process, Arcin digitalised film in his own terms by manipulating negatives and even constructing his own scanner. “I always envisioned controlling the chemical phase of the photographic process,” he explains. “Building my own scanner was basically the next step of it. Photographing the protagonist that day is one part and manipulating the negative is the other part of a long process until an image’s optimum.”

Trial and error has encouraged Arcin to become “more specific and precise in my expectations”. Arcin tells us that recently, he has been working on motion films. “It’s exciting to see a momentum exposed and stretched,” he reflects. As for his next steps, Arcin reveals that he has been working with two friends on a book project based on machine learning and artificial intelligence. “Keep your eyes wide shut,” he grins.
