New Yorkers have been battening down the hatches in preparation for the imminent arrival of Hurricane Sandy but we hope that it didn’t stop at least a few of them from enjoying this charming project over the weekend.
Bird on A Wire took over a shopfront on Manhattan and featured a flock of birds perched on a telephone cable. By calling a number advertised in the window, passers-by could set the flock swooping and circling in front of them while listening to bird sounds.
It’s the brainchild of Ben Light, Christie Leece, Inessah Selditz and Matt Richardson who described the piece as “transforming a traditional storefront into a literal call to action – engaging pedestrians into a playful two way interaction.”
It’s a really beautiful, fun installation with the simplicity of the idea masking the technical skills required to make it a reality.
