Photographic journal Collection of Documentaries’ discerning portrayal of British youth culture
We covered the first issue of Collection of Documentaries , a photographic journal of documentary photography, back in January; now in its second issue, C.O.D has grown from a small-run to worldwide distribution, whilst retaining its status as a timeless, forward-thinking publication. Editor Lee Crichton described the first issue as “a huge learning process [that] resulted in a British, nostalgic, homoerotic and violent outcome… Issue two is a lot more balanced, it still has all of the above but it really captures the real British youth culture we’ve been looking for, and we’re finding far more consistency in our approach.”
It’s art directed by Adam J Evans-Pringle and Erika Symonds, curated by Winter Vandenbrink and sub-edited by Elizabeth Gregory, who collates the essays in the journal and has also contributed in the form of an email conversation on growing up in the countryside with Jago Rackham. The design is unintrusive and lets the range and quality of photography speak for itself, every page printed in beautiful paper stock more often associated with photographic prints than a magazine, which only adds to the value of an already brilliant journal.
