Eva Bee’s topical editorial illustrations get straight to the point

Date
10 March 2016

Eva Bee’s illustrations tackle all the big issues from climate change to censorship. Her ability to succinctly tell a story while still being implicit is impressive and why The Guardian, The Boston Globe and Reader’s Digest are listed as regular clients.

Eva’s illustrations for opinion pieces like her fortnightly creations for The Guardian comment pages are where her work is strongest, and they lend themselves well to her detailed, expressive style. Her illustrations are built from hand-rendered line work, scanned in and coloured on the computer using her own textures and brushes. This harmony between the illustrator’s inky lines and smoother swathes of colour makes her work easily digestible.

While the final image is important to Derby-based Eva, the narrative behind it has to be just as strong. “Solving problems and creating interesting, eye-catching concepts that bring copy to life is key to my work,” says Eva.
