“In my paintings, baseball players are not playing baseball, but rather trying to fight against something by using their bats as a weapon,” are the concise words of Japanese painter Hiro Kurata. And what paintings he creates! Street-Fighter-esque fights between ungainly baseball players and warriors occur in vast mythological landscapes, whilst tethered fate-like balloons hang about in the sky umpiring the chaos below. Epic!
