How do you think It's Nice That should feature music? Comments welcome

We’ve been posting music-related art and design articles on It’s Nice That since the very beginning. In fact the first music video ever posted on It’s Nice That is this one by Koichiro Tsujikawa back in May 2007. Since then we’ve covered countless festival posters and identities, record sleeves, band logos, ad campaigns and tour photography amongst pretty much every other kind of music-related content you can think of, barring only reviewing music itself.

We recently asked the It’s Nice That readers to take part in a short survey about the site that would give us an idea of things we can keep doing or improve on. One question it threw up was whether we should be reviewing how we cover music on the site as so many readers listed it as one of their main passions. This was quite surprising given that for the last few months, the reception for music-related content on It’s Nice That has been lukewarm.

Recently we have launched both My Favourite Music Video – a Monday feature in which we invite filmmakers and relevant creatives to talk about their favourite ever music video – and the Friday Mixtape. We’ve had a lot of fun making these features and have had amazing contributors so far such as Wild Beasts, Bombay Bicycle Club, Anna Calvi, NTS Radio and more.

Even though there’s been a lot of positive vocal response to our music-related features, the numbers of people who actually look at these have always remained below our day-to-day content. Where a record sleeve design will automatically do very well on the site, a personal piece of writing or an exclusive mixtape often struggles to connect with our readers.

We want to bring more music to It’s Nice That but we’re wondering how. An apple without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze, and we feel the same goes with music and art. Sites such as Pitchfork and HUH seem to get the combination of music and art pretty right. Studio Music, Rose Blake’s collection of artists’ playlists is also a roaring success. Even the Tate’s at it; they had John Grant doing a gig in their British Folk show recently.

These are all testament to this holy union of sound and vision and we want in, so while we’re working away on a few ideas we thought we’d throw it open to you as well. Could we be doing different things with music-related coverage? Should we be doing it, or do you get that elsewhere?
