What's On: John Stark

Posted by James Cartwright,

John Stark’s paintings are bizarre and beautiful in equal measure. Drawing inspiration from folk mythology and religious iconography, he creates antiquated landscapes peppered with extraordinary beekeepers and brightly coloured hives, recalling DaVinci and El Greco with an occult/honeycomb twist. Though somewhat sinister in appearance there’s a reassuring wholesomeness to be drawn from the beekeepers’ presence and their interaction with the natural world. John’s work is currently on display at the Charlie Smith Gallery in Old Street until November 12.
