Jürg Lindenberger's stylistic and vibrant illustrations for all ages
The work of illustrator Jürg Lindenberger is joyful for audiences across the board. Whether he is interpreting bands for So Young magazine or creating illustrations for Anorak, his drawings are full to the brim of stylistic vibrance.
Jürg’s broad audience reach is his ability to balance his influences with his cheery style. Drawing from these influences informs the illustrator’s work, “I think in the last three years all the interests I had since an early age like the comics, imagery of popular culture, typography and printing, interest in contemporary illustration and then also older art styles like medieval stuff, expressionism and folk art somehow came together and are the source of my illustrations now.” Jürg also has a love for heavy metal music, and rather than creating brash and dark images, he channels the loud, busy and layered qualities of the genre into quirky brightly coloured characters. “The imagery of those metal, punk and indie bands and also skateboarding really fascinated me and I thought it would be awesome to do some kind of a graphic designer job later in life”, he explains. Another characteristic of his work often seen in his commissions for Anorak where his illustrations are engaging but also informative. With a love for “being outdoors, skateboards, surfing and having a real ale good time”, Jürg’s work often encourages adventure, inspiring all ages to explore, whether it be in cities or the countryside.
Represented by Studio Anorak in the UK and Studio Pony in Switzerland and Germany, Jürg has been commissioned by Google, Lasso Magazine and Place Skateboards to name a few, as well as recently completing a project as part of On Paper festival’s 10×10 invoking 10 illustrators from Europe project.
